About Ravenwood Elementary
Ravenwood Elementary is one of 22 elementary schools in North Kansas City Schools. Currently, we serve approximately 330 students. We house an ELL program at Ravenwood, serving dozens of students learning English as a second language. We have several students involved in SAGE, our gifted program. Our staff to student ratio averages 20:1, and our staff is experienced with many holding advanced degrees.
Ravenwood opened in September 1967 as an open-pod school with just two pods and a sunken gym structure to provide physical education for students with space for performance-based events. At that time, students ate lunch in their pods. Within a year of opening, the school completed an additional pod structure to accommodate new growth in the community.
About 1996, pods were restructured into classrooms, and the school added eight new classrooms and a large gym. The sunken gym area was leveled to provide cafeteria space for student dining. In the summer of 2005, an additional kindergarten classroom was added to the existing structure to accommodate the continued growth within Ravenwood's learning community.
Our school offers a before- and after-school program called Adventure Club. Ravenwood also offers extracurricular activities. Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades can serve on our Ravenwood Diversity Council. Students in 4th and 5th grades can be members of Hope Squad. Fifth graders may enroll in the Strings program.
As our school continues to grow, we strive to find ways to create learning experiences that are engaging, innovative, and challenging.
